Fresh from the 6 hour train journey to Aberdeen, I raced to the beach.
During the year of my Masters degree, regardless of weather, we trudged the sands: snow, rain, wind of sun, we huddled in bunkers or waded in the surf.
A decade and perhaps too many Wallanders on, the barren shore seemed ripe for a grim discovery.
This time it was only some interesting pebbles and driftwood.
But it is easy to see how Nordic beaches can feed the imagination.
