A heads-up on the first documentary film to emerge from the Gaza Conflict of 2008/2009:
A 95 minute documentary film by Samir Abdallah and Khéridine Mabrouk, GAZA-STROPHE: The Day After… was released in early March and follows Mabrouk and Abdallah’s journey through Gaza in the immediate aftermath of the conflict.
Through their encounters they discover that despite the suffering the Gazaoui “always wear the burden of hope” that is sustained through poetry, songs and nokta (jokes or story telling).
From the outset it brings to mind Under the Bombs (2007), which was also filmed in the immediate aftermath of an Israeli assault, albeit in Lebanon in 2006.
And as the Goldstone Report comes into question, the film can only become more pertinent.
