Well, in Saudi Arabia the blood money price list runs as follows

RS100,000 if the victim is a Muslim man

RS50,000 if a Muslim woman

RS50,000 if a Christian man

RS25,000 if a Christian woman

RS6,666 if a Hindu man

RS3,333 if a Hindu woman

“Blood money” (diyah) is money paid to the next of kin of a victim as a fine.

And the sliding scale system provides an insight into the distinctly unhumanistic nature of the Saudi judicial system, for when a Saudi man kills another Saudi the consequences comprise (at best) imprisonment or (at worst) the death penalty.

For killing a Pakistani /Indian/Sri-Lankan foreign manual worker the fine  is either low or nothing at all as the perpetrator walks away free.

I am intrigued by the rationale, for my understanding of Islam is that human life is precious, and above all equally so.

It’s more likely the above legal monstrosity is more the construct of flawed man, than faith.
