Yes, that’s right: for one church in Gainsville, Fla. it is not enough to commemorate the ninth anniversary of 9/11 with prayers and remembrance: rather, it will burn Qurans on Eid el-Fitr:
“We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn,” said Jones. The goal of these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert, he said.
In response to the posting of the event on Facebook a little more than a week ago, Jones said that people have been mailing Qurans to the church to burn. He said organizers got the idea, in part, from another Facebook page, called “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.” [Source]
That’s right: while Palestinian webpages are restricted on Facebook, ‘Burn Quran’ events are sanctioned.
For want of a better epithet, this is some crazy shit.

Hello asqfish: there are a few things – first, there is the ‘In Protest of “International Burn a Koran day” page on Facebook; second, you could visit the page of “International Burn a Koran Day” and issue a report via the ‘Report a page’ link on the left. Also, most significantly, you can spread the word through the blogosphere – the more people who take action, the quicker this can be resolved.
I agree, this is hypocritical. I say, burn ‘em all, let (whichever) god (you ascribe to) sort them out.

Just a way to show all Christians don’t think that way. I’m sure the vast majority of Christians in the world, and even in America, are against this horrendous and completely anti-Christian initiative, we can prove it if this group reaches more members than the International

Some Muslims are enjoying the event. “I don’t think they’ve figured out that burning is a respectful way of disposing anything that has Allah’s name written on it,” said Abdul Akbar Khan, owner of Taqwa Islamic Bookstore, “Besides, my sales have gone up 300%…I’ve completely sold out of all my copies of the Qur’an. For every book they buy and burn, I can reprint three more copies.”
According to Pastor Terry, he was astonished when someone told him about the 500-year old invention of the printing press and didn’t know about things like “mass publication”. “I didn’t think they could reprint copies of the Qur’an that fast… aren’t they all written by hand?”
Other angry burn-enthusiasts were shocked when they found out that the Qur’an is replicated digitally on the internet and would be impossible to get rid of completely. “Things got really out of hand when people started taking their computers and burning them too” said Cleaver. Half the crowd had fainted due to the fumes of the burning computers.
Things took a turn for the worst when people told the book burners that millions of Muslims have in fact memorized the entire Qur’an. “I heard it’s illegal to burn people so we had to stop the event because it was getting lame” said Terry, who ended up burning his wallet because it was made in Saudi Arabia.
