Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever.

Honour Killings Now Monthly

… in Britain.

That caught you by surprise, no?

Sadly, it is the truth that has emerged from the aftermath of the trial of the family of young Tulay Goren earlier this week.

The problem is now endemic – not only are women not safer in Europe, but the backlash against the men is as merciless as it is towards the female victims.

More worrying is that the crimes apparently occur almost monthly – that is startlingly frequent considering how rarely the issue features in the media.

We campaign so ardently against honor killings in countries such as Jordan – citing patrimonial authorities as the obstacle – though even in Britain we struggle to contain the occurrences.

It is a never-ending, cyclical dilemma that has become a global issue.

Which only calls for global action.
