Israel is a country in Asia. As such, the Israeli Football Association (IFA) should be part of Asian Football Association (AFC). This indeed has been the case, up to 1974, when due to political reasons (and wars) – it became impossible to play in Asia (many Arab and communist countries simply refuse to play against Israel) and so Israel had to found a new continental association to play with – and it moved to the Oceanic Football Association. The long flights for each game from all sides were not easy, and this situation continued until 1992, when Israel moved to the European Football Association (UEFA), which is geographically closer..
