Reclaiming love for the feminist agenda is as good a cause as any: read the full post over at Feministe for a veraciously profound insight into the influence of patriarchy on contemporary perceptions of that most wonderful of human capabilities:
The devaluation of love is a feminist issue if I ever saw one. To the extent that we love ourselves, we recognize that we don’t deserve violence or mistreatment, and we resist it. To the extent that we love others, we want them to be free from fear and pain. Love is pretty much the only reason political organizing ever happens. It’s also one of the most essential aspects of a happy and fulfilling life. It’s both the impetus to organize against oppression and the goal of efforts against oppression. It’s not a secondary issue. It is the central issue.
It is impossible to disagree, yet equally disheartening to acknowledge such a truth.
