You would imagine that the kids of Gaza had endured enough trauma, but while the guns have silenced, the pens of bureaucracy are ensuring the obstacles remain in place.
According to Mohammed Salem, the head of Pal Med, the doctors accompanying the children travelling through Egypt en route to France for further medical treatment were allowed through, while the ambulances holding the children were stopped.
When the doctors tried to re-enter Gaza, they were denied entry.
The block has been attributed to a change in policy by the Palestinian health ministry, based in Ramallah, after a statement was issued stating that there was “no more reason to refer any more children for treatment abroad”.
Try telling that to Hazem Abu Odeh, 12, and Iman Khadum, nine, who need surgery to stop bleeding from their kidneys, and Alla Abu Dagan, 16, who has suffered multiple fractures and abdominal wounds from a shell blast.
