This is the first outcome on the trial of eight soldiers for the massacre at Haditha - or, as it is known in American circles, the lesser charge of ‘manslaughter’ – and prompts the question, will the subsequent trials be a lesson in humanity, with harsh sentences, or another farce in which Iraqi lives are valued less than those of the Coalition?
