George Habash, the founder of the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine and promulgator of secular Arab nationalism, passed away today.
Although I would pause at calling Habash a legend, he nevertheless revolutionised the face of Arab nationalism and in terms of theoretical influence has been unrivalled.
At the age of eighty-two, he passed away in Amman, Jordan, leaving his wife and two children.
According to his wife, Hilda: “We will all carry the banner of Habash and the Arab nation he dearly cherished. Habash always believed Palestine would be liberated. He lived for his people and died for his people.”
George Habash 1925-2008
